Abstract

The dermatofibromas are the relatively common dermal connective tissue, tumor of the extremities in patients aged 20-50. They occur in the skin as indurated, indolent, single or multiple nodules, having the synonyms and variants because of various interpretations of the histopathologic finding. A certain proportion are not diagnosed clinically and are mistaken for pigmented nevus, basal cell carcinoma, follicular retention cyst, granuloma, blue nevi, lipoma, pilomatricoma and others.
We experienced 4 female patients, aged 13-43, who showed the superficially adherent, non-movable, intracutaneous., single nodule. The lesions were brownish to dark brown in color, and bean (1.0cm) to small walnut (1.5cm) in size on the legs, scapular and auxiliary areas. The diagnosis was not easy. Confirmatory diagnosis was done with histopathologic findings, concomitant with excisional biopsy in all of them.
The degree of overlying epipermal changes was ranged from normal-appearing epidermis to psoriasiform or seborrheic keratosis-like acanthosis. None showed the atypical epidermal proliferation.
